The Outsiders 1985 issue 12
…the wayback machine.
The Outsiders 1985 issue 12
Mike W Barr – writer [ahem]
Mark Beachum – pencils
Gray Morrow – inks
Workman – letterer
Adrienne Roy – colorist
…yet another episode where I did my best to do a good job on a truly awful story/script only to have the pencils destroyed by an artist I grew up admiring: Gray Morrow [this happened at marvel too]
It’s not so much that he was in hack mode [though he was] nor that our skills did not mesh. [he is one of the classic masters of solid draftsmanship, I was a neophyte stylist still figuring out how to do my thing]
It was just another poorly written piece of super-hero drivel published by people who do not take their own material seriously enough to infuse it with the charm of a real point of view.
[well, except for me–and unfortunately, or fortunately depending on the weather, my stuff tends to have an odd dynamic that does not fit with the nature of the material: the context of my point of view cannot be written by insecure mediocrities who cannot handle the reality of sensuality while using a medium that is purely about the body.
…throw in the shitty color and: shazam: a fully forgettable piece of comic-book trash….
I intended to ink this myself which made the result all the more discouraging. Even now I can see the ambitious creative intent in the layouts and figures.
…ah well…so it goes..
In any case: for your amusement:
